Type 1 News is an non-profit digest of publicly-available information about our understanding of type 1 diabetes, its treatment and general hints and tips for living with the disorder. All of the standard caveats and disclaimers apply. The author is a trained, practicing journalist with no particular background in medicine. As the parent of a young adult with type 1, the author has hundreds of hours of private research and some instruction in the topics discussed. Generally speaking, this site is designed to save time for those just beginning their own experience with – and understanding of – type 1 diabetes.
Those with diabetes have a deep, vested interest in ongoing research devoted to diabetes care. At Type 1 News we understand that – in our current system, anyway – most of this research will be powered by the profit motive, and so we avoid a strong political stand on regulation to control prices of insulin and supplies. Most of the images on this site are drawn from promotional materials produced by pharmaceutical and medical device companies including Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Sanofi and Medtronic. We use these images to note the important work and specific products of these companies, and neither endorsement nor infringement is intended. For your own detailed research, we suggest the American Diabetes Association, Breakthrough T1D or the Joslin Diabetes Center. Type1News is designed as a digest. We hope to give you some information to help settle yourself on certain topics, but stop short of giving you more information to further confuse the situation. Consider this one man’s exploration into the medical, economic, political and psychological implications of incorporating diabetic concerns into family life. Be well.
